Faced
with a need for expanded office space to accommodate a rapidly growing
insurance business, The Commerce Group retained TMA to provide designs and construction
documents for a new 15,000 SF addition to their existing Corporate Headquarters
Building, a major building renovation project TMA had previously completed
for The Commerce Group.
A
major concern of the design was to bridge over, and connect to, the existing
office space, visually tying together the new addition with the recently
completed Commerce Insurance Company Headquarters Building. The building had
to be constructed with a minimum of interference to the daily operation of
the company.
The
project received an Honor Award from the Associated General Contractors of
Massachusetts in 1987.
