The City of Methuen retained Thomas Mayo Associates to provide architectural
design services for a number of commercial building storefront and façade
improvement projects with Methuen’s Arlington Neighborhood. The projects were selected by the City for
funding through its Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Commercial
Rehabilitation Program. An existing conditions survey
and analysis was conducted for each project addressing all components of the
building façade, including historical elements, inappropriate modifications,
and deteriorated elements. Based on
the analysis, design sketches for improvements were produced together with
preliminary cost estimates. Based on the owner’s
selection, final design drawings were completed, along with refined cost
estimate, and submitted to the City for production of working specifications. The program provided loans to commercial
shop owners for improvement to their properties in an attempt to reverse the
trend of blight within this area of Methuen. Conceptual
