Ware Senior Center |

The
clapboard and shingle Queen Anne style building that houses the Ware Senior Center
was built in 1897 as a Methodist Church. Although the majority of the building
remains intact, including the exceptional stained glass windows and vaulted
ceilings, portions were becoming quite deteriorated, most notably the
decorative exterior shingles and roof. Thomas
Mayo Associates was commissioned by the Town
of Ware to prepare an existing conditions survey and to prepare a written report
outlining work required to stabilize the building, correct deterioration and
to bring the building up to code standards. Since there was a limited budget
to work with, TMA was asked to provide an order of priority for the work
required and offer suggestions of other possible modifications that could
help the building better operate as a Senior Center. Upon
completion of the report TMA was retained to prepare construction documents and
provide bidding and construction phase services to implement the suggested
improvements under the Town of Ware
Community Development Block Grant Program. The completion of the
project, which included the complete restoration of the building's exterior, provides
a much improved
meeting and recreational facility for the
senior residents of Ware, as well as greatly enhances the surrounding
neighborhood. |
